OGL 5v5 Open

=WaR= vs cB.

Torch2

We challenged cB, aka Children of the Bong. We didn't want to make any assumptions or extra observations. I mean just because they are called children of the bong it doesn't mean they actually participate in any bong activity.....so we took no chances and brought along a huge bag of hash brownies.

After all, they were the hosts and it's only polite for guests to bring a little after dinner dessert. It nearly backfired on us! When the whistles blew, cB came flying in our base from every direction! Boy can those guys conc to the pit every time! They scored, we scored, they scored, we scored.

It was a see saw game for 25 minutes. Neck and neck all the way till we were fortunate enough to stop their last attacks on us thus allowing our offense to edge us ahead for the win. We were concerned before the match about our roster, 2 key players were unavailable and forced us to use a 600 ping player, (=WaR=Carnage) with router problems. Despite that, he still managed to outscore our other defense players. A real nail biting match and a great effort by both teams!

We have only lost this map once in sudden death, but felt we were just unlucky. So we chose it again against cB hoping we could command it and win. I guess our roster concerns surfaced on this map. We had a hard time keeping our defense up as cB came flying in throwing pipes, bongs and brownies. We cut our feet on the glass and were intoxicated by the fumes. It was a dissaster! As much as we tried to set ourselves up, cB would come staggering in with big smiles on their faces and squinting eyes, and take off with our flag repeatedly!

We were fortunate to make one cap! However, it was midnight eastern time and we felt we were now at a disadvantage assuming cB were at their ultimate midnight highs. Both teams agreed to play the final map another day. Phew! Great play by cB!

This was the deciding game for the match. It was cB's choice map and we took no chances. We had our best team lined up and felt pretty confident. Having never played this map in a match before, we hoped our defense plan would pay off for us.

cB did the scout rush when the bells rang but were unable to make the touch. We on the other managed a quick touch and began moving the flag quickly.

We were about 7 minutes into the game leading 30-10 when our lovely new server decides to freeze us for about 20 seconds! OH NO!!! When we all came to again, cB leaders announce their refusal to play in our server and demanded we restart the match on their server and left! We sent our battle negotiator, =WaR=Kaos, to cB's mirc channel to explain that "shit happens" with the internet and if we can continue the game on our server. cB was not co-operating.

What were my personal feelings regarding all this? Well, first off, there were two opportunities that Team =WaR= could have demanded a forfeit. The first was when cB scheduled our match and failed to show up because they had already scheduled an earlier match with TTK that they were running late with. Despite the fact that Team =WaR= took that night off to play this match and waited for over an hour for cB to finish their match, when we finally decided to let them off the forfeit hook and reschedule with us.

When we rescheduled the match, cB showed up half hour late and it took them another half hour to get settled in causing us more delays that resulted in having to reschedule the third map because of our late start. Never did we cry or complain. So to see this reaction from cB was surprising under the circumstances. Our choices that we were given was to either start over on our server with a 0-0 score and guarantee them that the server will not misbehave again, (Right! As if anyone can control the internet!) or we keep the scores intact and restart the match on their server.

Well, feeling a little taken here, I felt we should just start over on their server and forget the existing scores. We don't need charity! Forget the gifts, forget the dessert, we were moved, and it was time to wrap up this long overdue match decisively!

Our offense hammered them, our defense slowed them down to snails. =WaR=Recon, having missed many past games, was so primed up for this match that he became an 'ANEEEMAAAAAL!!' He scores 69 pure defensive kills! Wow, it was a record for Team =WaR= and earned him the mvp for the match! We dominated the game and made sure their was no questions about our intentions. We didn't just want to win, we wanted to win with a wide margin! Final score 220-80.

Summary

There are two approaches clans can take when playing matches. One is to win at all and any costs, the other is to play your best and have the most fun you can have playing. It's nice to win, it's the iceing on the cake. However, a loss is not always bad when you know you and your team gave it all they had.

We at the =WaR= camp like to play fair and are always accomodating and understanding of situations that can arise. However, despite all that, one thing we are always sure about doing, is to acknowledge the other team and thank them for a good game. When our last map ended, the next map immediately began loading and no-one was able to type "GG". So we waited for the map to load only to see cB leave the server.

Well cB, as you didn't want to stick around, I'll just say it here instead, GG. (I hope you learned something from us)
