Rock2

This was a big match for us, we were challenging for the #1 spot! It's not everyday an opportunity arises to make such a challenge on this ladder. Timing and some luck is required and that we had until the match. Rock2 started with only 4 Westervilles and still they held us off. They did the scout rush and managed a touch right away, only a touch though, phew! Their 5th member showed up a few minutes later and I think that helped us out! We became more challeneged and made a few touches. Their offense was very well organised as was their defense. This team knew how to play their favourite map very well. The game was tied for over 20 minutes till =WaR=HavoC makes a successful push with the key and gets it out far enough when he is shot down. Fortunately =WaR=Kaos was right there to pick up the key and make a great conc escape. We hit the switch 15-0 Team =WaR=! "YEAH!" we all cheered, "Kaos is da man!" We got way too excited and I think we let down our guard a little. We had the champagne pouring, caviar and smoke salmon all laid out in our yard and =WaR=Snowman doing the hoola boola tango. I don't think Westervilles even noticed we capped. They came right back at us and made a push of their own! We dropped the smoke turkey thighs and double booked it back to our positions. By then the key was in our yard when a scout makes a great pick up and conc up for a swift run to the gas chamber where he tied the game at 15-15 in the last 5 minutes. Great cap for them, major blow for us. We knew round 2 was not going to be easy.

Bam

So far, we have been very lucky on this map. I think perhaps a lesson we learned is, when the thing works, don't change it! We changed our normal set up after seeing how our first map went. Who knows if that our anything else may have been different. You always think back after a match and ponder "what if's" They had great offense that adapted to whatever obstacles they were confronting. If we had a demo, they sent an engie, if we had SG's they sent the spies. Their defense had 2 great soldiers that kept the flag very safe. Despite that we managed 2 good advances and had the flag out in the yard twice. Unfortunately, it refused to move beyond that! You wonder how is it that we can take a flag out of BAM and lose it in the courtyard?? lol...who knows, like I said, just many of those "what if's". We played a tough 30 minutes that ended in 0-0. The game then had to go into "sudden death". This is where we have a 10 minute overtime and first cap wins. By then I think we were so burned out with this map that we wished we could have just moved on to the third. Rules are rules and besides we have a member that's known to do 20 second caps. "Let's do this!" we said. Off the whistles go and everything wrong happens. In all embarrasing honesty, I thought we play 10 minutes, so I was kinda of shocked to see a swarm of offense come at me! Hey! Hey! Hey!, I thought, I can only emp 3 at a time please! Westervilles made a great touch and put our flag in the yard. After that it was one of those "The enemy has your flag", "The enemy lost your flag" for a few minutes before they pulled off the cap, game over. Wow, it was quick, I think by then I was wide awake wondering, err does this mean we play 2fort now??? ROFL!

Summary

We had our chance and we played a very good team. This was one of our toughest matches and tough atmosphere. We felt we had this match in our pocket but I think there was a hole in there and our chance slipped by us. Hats off to Westerville for a fun match and a successful defend of their #1 spot!
