OGL 5v5 Title Defense

=WaR= vs Soldiers of Sin [SoS]

Stowaway_L

We were challenged by Soldiers of Sin for our #1 OGL spot and we thought' "how can that be? Have they not sinned? What on earth are these sins about?" We figured we would find out in the match and what better map to find out than Stowaway!

We have picked and lost this map before so why we picked it again is still a mystery to me. Pings were great as Harvest Time 2 is centrally located in Kansas and our members range from California to Florida to Canada!

The match got off to a fast pace and we make the first cap. Then SoS poured in, as they over ran me, I shouted, "You are forgiven, now drop that flag!" No such luck, they tossed some holy water at us often and blinded our judgements.

They took us by surprise and kept the scores very tight. It seemed like the match was never going to end as they managed to pull the flag to our door several times. Twice we were defending our flag on the bridge! Unfortunately for Sin, it caused time delays and allowed our offense to out cap them. Their defense was solid but time was against them.

We have never played this map before as a 5 man team. So we called the Feds, no not the "Feds" but [F.O.M.C], you know, the Greenspan guys. We had a great match with them before and asked if we can scrimm this map with them. We learned alot (thanks guys :D) and went into this round with more confidence than a couple of days before.

Our offense did a great job poking and jabbing.  A weak point was discovered and advantage was taken and our demoman managed to detpack the computer in the flag room as well for maximum cap points. Our Defense clicked great. Sins offense were outstanding and one could see how much they have worked this map.

I think we got lucky with setting up a good strat that worked well the first time for us. We obviously surprised them and caught them of balance. Despite some great moments by Sin, =WaR= pulled off a couple more caps in the end.

Summary

At one point in the game, SoS got the flag out and lost it below their cap points. As a defensive demo, I piped up to the top cap point and piped it. It was to prevent the 15 point cap that they were going for and force them to make the 10 point cap instead. I knew that there would be no way preventing this cap, but perhaps at least saving 5 points.

It worked great as a SoS soldier grabs our flag and rocket jumps up to the top, only to be pipe blown back down where he landed on the lower cap without choice.

This angered him as I believed he felt it was 'chasing' or bad sport to cap capture points. But that is a subjective argument.  In my opinion, it was a strategy that saved 5 points. It would not have effected the final score but I do hope it has not affected our relationship with SoS. We think they are a great team and hope to play them again! GG Soldiers of Sin!
